5 Ways to Level Up your Senior Photos

Senior year is the most exciting year of a students life! One of the best ways to commemorate this huge accomplishment is with Senior Photos! Senior photos should showcase who you are and all of your accomplishments throughout your high school career. But, no two experiences are alike (nor should they be!) Here are my 5 tips to level up your Senior Photo Experience!

Plan ahead

As with most things, this is something that you don’t want to wait until the last minute to plan for many reasons! Photographers book up months in advance so you will want to pick one early so you can make sure you get the date you want.

This also gives you time to pick out your outfits and figure out if there are any accessories or props that you want to include.

Once you pick your photographer and discuss your ideas and expectations its time for the next tip, which is …

Location

Think about places that are special to your story. Photos don’t always need to be in a studio or a field! They can be as creative or as personal as you want! Are you a gamer? Maybe go to the local arcade. An athlete? Photos on the field you play at or in the locker room! Book worm? Head to your local library!

When you look back on your photos, they should be a reflection of your interests, so let your photographer know what you’re into and you can come up with the perfect spot together!

Dress it up

This is the best time to showcase your individuality. Pick outfits that:

  • represent your personal style

  • are comfortable to wear

  • make you feel confident

Choose colors the compliment your skin tone and hair color. Accessorize by bringing props that reflect your hobbies and interests. This can be anything from a fishing pole for an outdoorsman to a special set of heels for the fashionista!

Get Creative

Be open to trying new poses or lighting set ups to give you most variety in your photos. Anyone can take a photo standing square to the camera and smiling, but the difference between “okay” portraits and “WOW!” portraits are usually because of different poses, lighting, and facial expressions. This is your time for your own personal paparazzi, so take this time and WORK IT.

Choose the right photographer

Be sure to research different photographers in your area. There are so many out there and each have their own style. Choose a photographer whose style you love. Go through their portfolio, ask them questions, read previous clients reviews.

Don’t be afraid to reach out and talk to them. Let them know what your ideas are and see if they feel they can help you bring that to life. A good photographer should be able to understand your vision and craft your session to meet your needs!

Senior photos are such a rite of passage for young adults. If you follow my tips above, you can create an experience that is truly one-of-a-kind. Above all else, don’t forget to have fun with it! This is such a special moment in your life. Don’t stress about being perfect or not knowing what to do with your hands :) Just be yourself and let your photographer work their magic.
